Oklahoma City, OK – Pascal, Benz, Picasso, all child prodigies, all legends who changed the world. Seemingly borne of genius themselves, these few examples of the prodigy phenomenon embody the hopes and dreams of many a parent. Those first early words, the first few notes on the piano, those moments can lift a parent’s heart with the dream that their child could be one to change the world. It’s a wish common to virtually all parents.
One Oklahoma City family were sure that their son was that next great prodigy. He spoke at an early age, showed a great aptitude for reading and responded enthusiastically to music. It was art though, that the family saw the real potential. He would spend hours in front of a piece of paper, at first with his fingers, but quickly he upgraded to brushes. It became clear art was what he loved to do.
“I’ve never seen a child that consumed by one activity,” said his mother Angel Rabinowitz. “We were so happy to see him so entranced and just knew then that this was where his future lied. We gave him everything he needed, did everything we could to support his talent.”
“I knew he was a genius from the minute I saw him,” said David Rabinowitz. “He like cried right away so I knew something was up. He started walking at two years old, and I knew then it was fate.”
Unfortunately, not everyone has seen his talent.
“The kid is four years old. His paintings look like a two year old did them,” said Devin Holwood, director of a local gallery. “It’s not that I can’t see the brilliance of his work, it’s that the work is garbage. It’s beneath a child of the age he’s at never mind being ahead of the curve. One painting had three lines and a bunch of handprints. That’s not art, that’s a kid’s painting. I don’t mean to be a jerk, but these parents are nuts.”
The Rabinowitz’s haven’t taken Holwood’s criticism well. “The guy is a snob,” said David. “We can see the talent, all our friends and family can see the talent. We know he’s a genius and we’ll make the world see that.”
The couple plans on moving to New York City as soon as they are able, citing the abundance of art galleries in the city.
“Look, they can move to Paris for all it matters. The reality the kid is a moron, and the parents are just as stupid,” continued Holwood. “I mean they’re proud of the fact that he could paint before he said his first word. He said his first word when he was three years old. And it’s not like he’s autistic or anything, he’s just stupid. And the father, he misspelled his own name when they submitted the painting. He’s an idiot and the kid has less talent than the average four year old.”
The Rabinowitz family is determined though. They plan to soldier on until someone see’s the talent. “He’s our little boy and we love him and we know he’s going to grow up and be rich and famous,” Angel added. “I just know he’s a genius, I just know it.”
