LaRue is a town located in the county of Camembert in the Canadian province of Ontario. Built on the coast of the Robertson River, LaRue is the industrial and cultural heart of the county. The 2006 census put the population of the town at 38,174.

History

Founded in 1887 by French Businessman Gerald LaRue, LaRue began life as a mining and logging hub, drawing in immigrants from countries all over the world. Utilizing is placement along the Robertson River the town eventually evolved into an import/export hub, which helped turn the town and the surrounding communities into bustling and vibrant communities.

Community

LaRue boasts a rich and diverse ethnic community due in large part to its economic upbringing. Events such as the annual Founder's Day parade and Fish Festival, as well as its scenic flower gardens and hiking trails makes LaRue a sought after travel destination.

Business

Home to many small and large business, the principal employer in the city is The Bioexoenergy Corporation and the SCRP television network.

Culture

The LaRue Community playhouse is one of the many cultural attractions of the city. It plays home to the LaRue Community players as well as various high school performances.

Founded in 1901, the bi-weekly news publication is distributed throughout Camembert County. It also provides the news wire service to Scrape TV

SCRP

SCRP is the local television station (known locally as Scrape) which broadcasts a variety of programs across the county.

Town Council

Cynthia Wreckett has been Mayor of LaRue since 1998. Deputy Mayor is Kevin Dray.
