EVERYONE DISAPPOINTED AS THE WRONG GEORGE MICHAEL DIES
December 24 2009
Washington, D.C. – It’s very likely that the world will never see another year like 2009 again. The swearing in of the first black President of the United States, one of the worst global recessions in history, and of course the plethora of celebrity deaths
have all combined to make the last year of the first decade of the 21st century one for the ages, a year unlikely to be repeated any time soon.
With only a few days left in the year many thought it unlikely that much else would change but the shocking death of actress Brittany Murphy changed all that. While her star wasn’t nearly as bright as her fellow celebrities that passed into the great beyond this year, the nature of her death and her young age made her passing one of the most talked about moments of the year. For a moment it seemed to many that there may be one more story to add to the legend of 2009 with word that George Michael had passed away on Christmas Eve. As it turns out George Michael did indeed die, though it was the markedly less famous person by that name rather than the singing star who so dominated the pop charts through the 1980’s and 90’s.
“He waged his battle against cancer with the same drive and determination that made him a one-of-a-kind in the broadcasting industry. Whether it was covering a sports story, working on his horse farm, or spending time with family and friends, he approached everything in life with passion,” said the family of George Michael the sports caster on Thursday. “He died with his family and friends around him which was the way he lived his life. We apologize to all the fans of the singer as it was not our intention to fool them in any way into believing that he had in fact died when it was actually our George. Our sympathies and thoughts go out to the friends, family, and friends of the other George Michael.”
The singer George made it big in the group ‘Wham!’ with partner Andrew Ridgeley. The broadcaster George was a well regarded personality who had a minor hit with his show ‘Sports Machine’.
“The broadcaster George was quite well known throughout the Washington area and to a lot of sports fans across the United States so to them this is a big deal, to them this is a major celebrity death, but that just isn’t the case for the bulk of the world who either didn’t know who he was or care,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “Now if the singer had died that would have been a totally different story. He’s a big name throughout the world and though his star has faded in recent years when he eventually does die, it will be a big story. Some people make a mark on society that isn’t ever undone and he is one of those people. That would have really capped off the year and who knows, I mean there are still a few days left.”
Michael has had numerous run-ins with the law in recent years starting with an indecent exposure bust in 1998 and more recently has also had a number of drug related arrests.
“There are a handful of stars that are really high on the list of people who will be going sooner rather than later and he is near the top of that list. I mean twice he’s been found slumped over in his car in public areas. He’s just begging for it really so pretty soon that scare will come true,” continued Temple. “It really would have been a remarkable thing if he had died. The way things have gone this year it’s actually kind of surprising that he did survive when all these other people died. Good for him, at least for now.”
The singer Michael has reportedly cut down on his drug intake in recent months leading many to believe that a relapse and possibly death is imminent.
