DAVID ARQUETTE STILL SOBER LIKE ANYONE CARES
April 10 2011
Los Angeles, CA – Addiction of any kind is not something anyone who has suffered through it would wish on their worst enemy. Whether to drugs, alcohol, or some other compelling intoxicant, addiction is amongst the worst burdens of the human
condition, destroying lives and families and killing a great number of people. Most people certainly encounter some degree of addiction in their lives, but for others it can get totally out of control and cause the individual to spiral ever further downwards.
As yet there is no clear understanding of why addiction occurs. Medical treatment can deal with the symptoms of addiction and even understand the mechanics of the process, but no understanding as to why people become addicted has ever come to light. The reasons why some people become addicted and others simply enjoy indulgences is something of a medical mystery, but despite not having an explanation the effects of the disease are very clearly documented. Certainly people suffer from such ailments in private, but it often only when a prominent person comes forward and seeks help for their problems that real attention is paid to the ailment. Celebrities certainly have no special connection to addiction, but when they speak people listen, even when the person speaking is David Arquette who is telling everyone he can far he has come in overcoming his addiction, assuming that people care.
“David is very happy to be sober a hundred days now. It has been a long and hard road for him to travel but David has taken the burden with great strength. He has on his walking shoes, he has his pack on his back, and he walking the walk,” said a spokesperson for the actor. “His feet are blistered and he is burnt from being in the sun, but this is a road he must walk and he will walk until he has reached his final destination. He feels that he has already seen the light at the end of the tunnel, and he has his final goal in his mind’s eye.”
Arquette checked himself into rehab earlier in the year shortly after separating from his famous wife Courtney Cox.
“It always seems as though celebrities are getting themselves into these messes, that somehow celebrities are more prone to addiction than ordinary people but I can tell you from experience in dealing with addicts that the numbers of people suffering addiction are the same across the board,” said Scrape TV Medical analyst Dr. Phillip Waites. “There are certainly pressures in celebrity but there are pressures in real life as well, things that many celebrities simply don’t have to deal with. Of course addiction isn’t directly tied to personal issues or pressures as many assume but is rather a problem with brain mechanics, the physiology of the brain and not some weakness in character. That is a very outmoded concept. The reason it appears celebrities are more addicted that regular people is due to their prominence not their profession.”
Arquette also proclaimed his success to his Twitter followers, most of whom probably care.
“That doesn’t negate the suffering of these individuals and they do provide an example and lesson for normal people suffering these issues, but the actual numbers do not bear out the increased levels of addiction, only increased attention,” continued Waites. “That even applies to someone like David Arquette who has remained kind of a celebrity for a while. I’m sure that most people only care because who he was married to but still he provides an example for people trying to overcome their own illness, trying to make their own lives better, theoretically anyway, I mean it is David Arquette.”
Arquette will next be seen in ‘Scream 4’, also assuming people care about that.
