UBISOFT TO RELEASE RAPE PREVENTION GAME FOR NINTENDO DSI

February 4 2009

Montreuil, Seine-Saint-Denis, France – There is little doubt that the Nintendo DS has been a runaway success. With sales on target to make the little handheld that could the most successful gaming platform of all time, developers are still scrambling to grab a piece of that massive audience and are starting to get really creative with software. Aside from Nintendo itself, no developer has been as successful as Ubisoft has been. The French company, oneof the largest software developers in the world, has published or produced over a hundred titles for the platform, from their hallmark franchises ‘Splinter Cell’ and ‘Prince of Persia’ to their own rendition of shovelware titles such as the ‘Petz’ series and the ‘Imagine’ series of games. Now the company is delving into a new realm with real life help titles, the first two of which will release with the Nintendo DSi when it arrives in North America in the spring.

“Ubisoft is thrilled to be continuing our relationship with Nintendo and are overjoyed to be supporting the DSi which we feel will be the next revolution in gaming. We are also thrilled to be bringing to this exciting new platform what we feel is a totally new genre for games,” said Ubisoft spokesperson Yves Lalond. “The portability and functionality of the DSi gives us the opportunity to explore a totally new way of thinking about gaming and allows us to continue to push the boundaries of what people see as acceptable forms of gaming. As you can tell, our excitement is overwhelming.”

The first two titles in this ‘new genre’ for gaming will be ‘Sally’s guide to rape prevention’ and ‘Don’t touch me there’. Both titles will be aimed primarily at the ever evasive female gamer crowd.bad touch bloodhound gang

“Obviously ‘Don’t touch me there’ will be targeted at younger gamers. There is the option to have both a male and female model. We feel that the touch interface will add a totally new dimension to the rather dull lessons that parents must teach their children,” continued Lalond. “As for our Rape prevention guide, well that is fairly self explanatory. We want women of all ages to be aware of the dangers in the world nad we fell this is the best way to communicate that to them. We must make subjects such as these exciting and interactive in order to really get across the point. Short of actually demonstrating the acts, we feel this is best way to inform and enlighten our players.”chastity belt

The company also said that the new games will fully utilize the all aspects of the DSi, including the camera and the increased brightness setting for use as a real life light.

“It will be interesting to see where exactly they go with this. The possibilities aren’t really endless but there are a lot of avenues for them to explore. From rape prevention, to rape itself the potential for titles in this new genre could be exciting,” said Scrape TV Gaming analyst Graeme Hawthorne. “They are potentially treading on dangerous ground but that only does good things for the bottom line, which is getting harder and harder to reach in this economy.”pepper spray

The company was silent on other potential titles in the new series but indicated that they would be exploring subjects that have never been broached in gaming.

“While they’d be unlikely to explore the adult realm for fear of difficulty with the ESRB, but the DSi is well equipped for that as it stands. The cameras and flash memory make things like illicit photographs that much easier and in the short term no one is likely to suspect a gaming system. If they are able to push the envelope though that might happen,” continued Hawthorne. “There’s also great potential for additional content through the DSi shop. Rape kits, pepper spray, even rape alarms. If this takes off the earning potential is fantastic. The quality of the games might be non-existent but that hold true for many of the games on the DS.”

Ubisoft plans to release the first two titles shortly after the DSi launches.
