BARACK OBAMA PROMISES DIAPER CHANGE YOU CAN BELIEVE IN

Washington, D.C. - While there have many quips about the age of Republican Presidential candidate John McCain, most of those have remained in the realm of political punditry and commentary. With a new comment from respected Democrat and former Presidential candidate John Kerry, the jokes have hit the mainstream.

"I don't know if any of you know what it's like. I do, obviously," Kerry told the crowd. "I've been asked all of those brilliant questions that were repeated this year...Barack got asked the famous boxers or briefs question. I was tempted to say commando... Then they asked McCain and McCain said, ‘Depends,'"

Kerry made the comment at a rally in Cambridge, Massachusetts in response to a question about the wear and tear of the press during a campaign.

While no one from the Obama campaign has made a public comment about the statement, word from Democratic circles is that Obama and the rest of the staff have been secretly making the same jokes themselves, riffing on Obama’s early campaign message of ‘Change you can believe in’.

“It’s the kind of joke that gets passed around. Obviously McCain is older and the connection is a quick one to make. It’s funny that Kerry would air such an inside joke, but at least it was tastefully done,” said Scrape TV political analyst Gabriel Kinsey. “Plus it’s funny. At this point a little joke isn’t going to hurt anyone and most certainly won’t damage either campaign. Kerry should be careful though. He’s not that much younger than McCain and is still actively serving as a senator. It won’t be a whole lot longer before he’s going to be shopping the diaper aisle himself.”

At 47 Barack Obama is of course far removed from the adult diaper section of the drug store. Talk from inside the campaign have indicated that the joke may have originated with Obama himself, well known to be good natured and easy going, but it is far from the only chuckle inducing comments coming from behind closed doors.

“Incontinence is just one of the many jokes that can be made about the elderly,” said Scrape TV Humour analyst Doug Cutter. “Sleepiness; forgetfulness; death; all those things are ripe for comic exploitation when a person gets to a certain age and I think old people expect it. McCain is a bit of a rage-a-holic so he might not see the humour in it, but whatever. The Republicans probably have just as many jokes about Obama. I mean his name alone is a comedy goldmine. It’s too bad the Republicans are too uptight to make those kinds of jokes in public. Plus the polls aren’t looking very good so they may not be in much of a joking mood which is really too bad. Those guys need to lighten up.”

We contacted Depends for comment and were told that they “...Will not publicly endorse any candidate for President. We are always looking at new marketing ideas and plans for the future but we will reserve those plans until the election has been decided.” The company did point to the success Viagra had in using former Republican presidential candidate Bob Dole as a spokesperson as a model. “We’ll wait until November 5 before we make any decisions, but we do have some ideas in mind.”
