MICHAEL CRICHTON DIES OF CANCER AND IS IMMEDIATELY CLONED

November 5 2008

Los Angeles, CA – The surprising death of ‘ER’ and ‘Jurassic Park’ creator Michael Crichton at the age of 66 has put fans and collaborators alike into mourning, at least it did temporarily. Shortly after announcing the death of the writer/director, Crichton’s agents declared that they had successfully extracted DNA and begun the cloning to bring him back to life, much like was done with the dinosaurs from his most famous creation.michael crichton dinosaur

“While we are saddened by the loss of the original Michael, we are pleased to announce that in only a few short weeks he will be rejoining the living and will continue writing and producing amazing works of imagination for years to come,” said a spokesperson for the Crichton. “It was Michael’s prescience and imagination that allowed this type of technology to be borne and now he, his family, his friends, and the rest of the world will benefit for a long time to come.”

It is expected that a fully aged version of Crichton will be available before Christmas. The family also stated that they would be producing younger version of the writer in order to allow work to be produced without interruption.

“We are producing clones about twenty years apart so that there will always be a version of Michael,” continued the spokesperson. “We want to ensure that generations of readers will have Michael’s imagination to revel in. We can’t imagine a world without a ‘Congo’ or ‘Sphere’ to read.”jurassic park cover

According to the spokesperson the technology that will enable them to clone the author is slightly different than that used in the film. For example the cloned Crichton’s will be male and the DNA used will exclusively from the author. The spokesperson did mention that they attempted to track down some residual DNA from Ernest Hemingway to put into the mix, “Just to spice up the dialogue a bit” but were unable to find a clean strain.

The cloning of Crichton is bringing as many moral and ethical questions as were brought up in ‘Jurassic Park’ including who will have access to the technology and how it should be used.

“There’s a great line in the book and movie when Jeff Goldblum’s character says Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.’ And that certainly applies here,” said Scrape TV Science analyst Dr. Howard Poe. “You come up against the obvious moral question such as what defines life and who has access. But in the case of Crichton you also have to deal with the possibility of Timeline 2. Crichton was a very financially successful author but creatively he left a little to be desired. If we were talking about cloning Thomas Hardy or F. Scott Fitzgerald we might be looking at it a little differently, but come on, ‘Rising Sun’? Disclosure? You can’t say as there is a whole lot lost there.”jurassic park kitchen raptors

Other concerns brought forth revolve around the disastrous ending of the dino tale and how that could be played out in real life. Will the cloned Crichton’s settle into a normal life or will they run amok and begin eating visitors to the house? There are many questions that remain with new and unproven technology that some see as too much of a risk.

“Cloning has of course been a success with lower mammals but human beings are far more complex and the variables are much greater,” continued Poe. “Again, Goldblum said ‘No hold on, this is not some species that was obliterated by deforestation, or the building of a dam. Dinosaurs, uh, had their shot, and nature selected them for extinction.’ You never know what might happen when you mess with nature this way. Let’s just hope that is things do go awry that they keep him away from the keyboards.”
